PRIORAT WINE TOUR
With vineyards across steep slopes and imposing terraces, Priorat represents some of the best “terroir-driven” wines in the world.
Ripe red and black plum, cassis and black cherry dominate the aromas of high quality Priorat reds. Signature Priorat blends from the staple Garnacha or Cariñena grapes are dominated with complex cherry and mature plum flavours. Typical aromas are wild thyme, tarragon, dill and even curry – as well as the native lavender and violets that grow throughout the mountainous countryside.
Priorat is one of only two DOCa wine regions in Spain, alongside Rioja, with the highest quality level for a wine region according to Spanish wine regulations. Which is rather surprising, as there are no trellises to be found, only bush vines planted on shale fragments, called schist or llicorella, resulting very low yield harvests.
