Ronda

Ronda Wine Tour

Nestled dramatically above the deep El Tajo gorge in the mountainous Serranía de Ronda, the ancient city of Ronda crowns the Málaga province like a stone sentinel

Sheltered by the craggy sierras and refreshed by Atlantic breezes, the high plateau bakes by day and cools by night, a dramatic diurnal swing that coaxes slow ripening, vivid aromatics and brisk acidity from Syrah, Petit Verdot, Garnacha and rescued local rarities like Romé and Tintilla

Most importantly, Ronda is not Napa Valley. No queuing, no hordes, no rush, with each winemaker preferring to uncork their creations over a two hour tour and tasting, paired with local tapas.

Despite Ronda’s relative infancy as an enotourism destination, it has historical viniculture roots that date back thousands of years to the aptly-named ruined ancient Roman city of Acinipo, meaning the ‘city of wine’ – one of the few cities in the Roman Empire that made wine of such good quality that it was exported back to Rome!

On your tour you will be presented with detailed tastings of each wine, as well as informative details on the the varieties of grapes grown, differences in oak, and even insights into the winemakers’ own preferences.

“We were going to go there anyway, but found a local tour company that combines your tour of the town with stops at two local wineries. All in all, a very nice day.” https://jimlockardonwine.com
